Cheltenham 2021 Day 3 – What happened?

Ahhhh. Day 3 of Cheltenham has passed and saw much drama. And when we say drame, we mean DRAAAAMMMMAAAAAA.

It all startred in the first race when heavily fancied and odds on favourite Envoi Allen failed to finish after falling, leaving 9/1 shot Chantry House to finish a few lengths ahead of the others. Accas ruined everywhere, but it was early enough for people to put another one on if they wanted. In the second race favourite The Bosses Oscar was beaten into second by Mrs Milner but the unseated Kansas City Chief was stuck in the middle of the pack for most of the race and threatened to cause chaos at any time.

Onto the 14.30 and there were no problems for Allaho who, having been heavily backed in the morning literally tore the field apart when winning. In fact out of the 11 starters, only 4 other horses finished, such was the pace that the race was run at. The other horses literally could not keep up with Allaho and gave up leaving the winner to finsh in style 12 lengths ahead of Fakir D’Oudairies.

In the Paddy Power Stayers 12/1 shot Flooring Porter led from early on and held of challenges from Paisley Park, who never really got going, and could only finish third. This was followed by the 15.40 where The Shunter was happy to shadow Kilhealy Briggs until taking the lead towards the end to win with Farclas in second.

So, only two races to go in Day 3 of Cheltenham. In the 16.15 Tellmesomethinggirl was expertly handled by the excellent Rachel Blackmore to finish by a fair margin after Magic Daze, who had made most of the running was outpowered into second place. And finally in the 16.50, Storm Control took the early lead, setting the pace with favourite Mount Ida dropping to the rear of the field and going out from 3/1 to 100/1 at one stage in running. The excellent Rachel Blackmore fell for the third or fourth time this meeting when Plan Of Attack fell. And remember that 100/1 (at one stage) Mount Ida? Well it only came through and bloody won!

So how did we do?

13.20 – Chantry House E/W 9/1  – a good start with a healthy win.

13.55 – Storm Goddess E/W 16/1 – Fell

14.30 – Samcro E/W 8/1  – Couldn’t handle the pace like many others and was pulled up

15.05 – Fury Road 9/2  – Another one that was pulled up

15.40 – Assemble E/W 22/1 – looked good but faded into fifth

16.15 – Mighty Blue E/W 14/1 – Third. A small consolation

16.50 – Shantou Flyer E/W 8/1 – Second. Another consolation
