A Guide to Windsor Race Course

A Guide To Windsor Race Course

Windsor Racecourse is situated in Berkshire, England and is one of only two figures of eight tracks in the United Kingdom. The other is Fontwell Park.

With the obvious Royal connections it will come as no surprise that horse racing has happened on the site since the time of Henry VIII, but the official course was not opened until 1866.

Originally Windsor offered both National Hunt jumping and Flat track racing, but in 1998 Windsor racecourse decided just to run Flat racing during the Summer months, normally on Monday evenings in May.

As stated, the Windsor racecourse is in a figure of eight shape, measuring 12 and a half furlongs. Because of this lay out, any race that is over 1 mile and 4 furlongs will involve the horse and jockey navigating both left and right hand turns. Any distance shorter than this and only right handed turns are met.

The course is flat in nature, but has sharp turns and is quite narrow. There is a hefty five furlong run in to the finish line. A high draw favours any horse in 5 and 6 furlong sprints.

Bullet Points
