About 16 meetings a year take part a Salisbury racecourse, one of them being the City Bowl, which is believed to be the oldest named race in the United Kingdom.

This Flat racing course is home to 3 Listed race per season including the Group 3 Sovereign Stakes which is run in August. Run over a distance of 1 mile, its is open to colts and geldings aged three years old or more.

Other notable races include the Upavon Fillies stakes and the Cathedral Stakes.

The course is made up of a long straight with a loop about a third of the way it branching off to the right hand side which makes for sharp turns when it is used. Right handed, it has a seven furlong run in which is all uphill.

The course is 1 mile and 2 furlongs long.
