A Guide to Ripon Race Course
Overview
Nicknamed the Garden Racecourse, Ripon racecourse in North Yorkshire has been operating from its current site since 1900. It hosts around 16 fixtures per year, with its most notable races both occurring in August.
The Great St Winifred Stakes is a six furlong sprint that is open to any horse that is aged three or older. It is the most valuable purse at Ripon, and horses that do well in this race often go on to compete in the Ayr Gold Cup.
The other race is the Champion Two Year Old Trophy, which unsurprisingly is open to horses aged 2 years old. Again, this race takes part over six furlong course.
The course is a flat elongated oval shape measuring 1 mile and 5 furlongs with a sharp bend coming just before the five furlong run in. The bends are cramped and the whole course has many swells and dips. The course is right handed.
A 1 furlong long spur allows the course to run straight line 6 furlong races.
