A Guide to Redcar Race Course
Overview
Redcar racecourse opened in 1870, Before this horse races were held on the beach at nearby Coatham.
The course offers a couple of prestigious races during the year, two of them both staged at the same meeting in October.
The Two year Old Trophy is, as you would imagine, open to all horses aged 2 years old. It is run over a distance of 6 furlongs and has the most prize money for any race run at Redcar during the season.
The other race is the Guisborough Stakes, a 7 furlong sprint open to all horses that are three years old or older.
The course is a narrow oval track that is left handed. It is 1 mile and 6 furlongs in length. The course is totally flat but the two sharp bends can prove tricky and the run in is a considerable 5 furlongs long. An added spur allows the racing of straight mile races.
