A Guide To Plumpton Race Course
East Sussex in England is home to Plumpton Racecourse. The first meeting was held in 1884 and was the venue where AP McCoy rode his 3000th winner.
One of British racings smaller venues, Plumptons race course is only just over 1 mile long. It’s a left handed course which has a narrow track and is very hilly with tight turns.
Both National Hunt races and Hurdles races are run at Plumpton. The Hurdle course runs around the outside of the Chase course, although both share the same uphill run in to the finish.
Jockeys suggest that the best ground is often on the outside and not near the rail on the Hurdles track.
The Chase course has 8 fences to jump including one open ditch and a water jump, whereas the Hurdles course only has 5 jumps to navigate.
