A Guide to Nottingham Race Course
A Guide To Nottingham Race Course
Nottingham in England has one of the oldest racecourses in use in the United Kingdom. Records going back to 1773 show that it was given a Royal Plate race in that time. Nottingham ran both National Hunt and Flat racing until 1996 when it abandoned the former and concentrated on being a Flat Racing venue.
The course hosts three Listed Races. The Kilvington Stakes is open to fillies and mares aged 3 years or older. It is run over a distance of 6 furlongs and 18 yards. The other race is the Further Flight Stakes. This is contested over 1 mile and 6 furlongs by horses aged four years or older. These tow races are run in May and April respectively.
The other race is run in June. The Nottinghamshire Oaks is raced between horses that are aged four years or older over a course that is 1 mile, 2 furlongs and 50 yards in length.
Nottingham hosts about 23 fixtures per year.
