A Guide to Hereford Race Course
Overview
Having had racing at Hereford since 1771, in 2012 Hereford racecourse closed down, effectively end 240 continuous years of the sport at this venue. Happily the course reopened in 2012 and now has at least 11 National Hunt fixtures each year as well as Hurdles and Chase meetings. The racecourse is popular with trainers for starting new horses in their careers.
In 2018 a reservoir was built in the middle of the course allowing it to be watered independently of any other water source.
The track itself is square and right handed, with the entire circuit measuring about 1 mile and 4 furlongs. There are 9 fences on the course and the final turn for home is on falling ground with the slope running left to right on the track. Aside from that turn the course is generally flat.
