A Guide to Great Yarmouth Race Course

A Guide To Great Yarmouth Race Course

Racing at Great Yarmouth has been recorded as far back as 1715 when innkeepers in the area used to stage races but official races that were authorised through the Racing Calender didn’t start until 1810.

The most valuable race at Great Yarmouth is the John Musker Fillies stakes which is run every September and is open to fillies aged 3 years and older. It is run over a distance of 1 mile, 2 furlongs and 21 yards.

The course itself is a long narrow loop with a spur forming the starting straight, giving the shape of a lower case “q”. The course is left handed. The circuit is around 8 furlongs around and the spur is another 5 furlongs. The course is perfectly flat although the bends are fairly sharp.
